ABSTRACT
Objectives: To determine the effects of massage therapy on the immune and psychological state, and serum lipids levels.<br> Design: A non controlled trial with 32 subjects.<br> Setting: Kyoto Prefectural School for the Blind and Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine.<br> Subjects: 32 adults aged from 18 to 56 years (10 males; 22 females).<br> Interventions: One 25-min whole body massage.<br> Outcome Measures: Changes in peripheral blood levels of red blood cells (RBC), hematocrit (Ht), white blood cells (WBC), lymphocytes, neutrophils, CD4+ lymphocytes, CD8+ lymphocytes, CD4+/CD8+ ratio, CD16+ lymphocytes, serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ), serum interleukin 6 (IL6), serum total cholesterol (T-CHO), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c); saliva secretory IgA (s-IgA); State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).<br> Results: Psychological measures; Both state and trait anxiety scores decreased significantly (p<0.001). Serum lipids; Significant hemodilution and significantly decreased levels of serum T-CHO, LDLc and HDLc (p<0.001) were observed. Immune measures; Significant decreases of neutrophils (p<0.05) and CD16-positive cell counts (p<0.01) were recognized.<br> Conclusions: It was suggested from our result in the present study that massage therapy is an effective relaxation/stress management technique which could reduce anxiety and modulate immune function.<br>

I'll report that I perceived the change to deep body temperature, blood pressure, volume pulse wave, cinnamic acid parcial pulse and pulse rate as a result of having effect to the blood stream of the whole body by acupuncture stimulation.<br>By acupuncture stimulation deep body temperature, although there is unsettled descending tendency in soles and ascending one in palms, both the difference between the right and left tended to decrease.<br>Both the highest blood pressure and the lowest blood one indicated ascending tendency.<br>When volume pulse wave reached at 74% of all cases of illness, claudication ratio became smaller.<br>Cinnamic acid partial pressure increased alike on an average 7.5mmHg.<br>The pulse rate decreased at 95% of all cases of illness.<br>While deep body temperature, blood pressure, volume pulse and pulse rate are changing towards minus, only the ascending tendency of cinnamic acid partial pressure indicates that it will have effect of getting a living body back a harmonious condition.

It is not necessary to dwell on the fact that the acupuncture effect is based on autonomic nerve reactions as this has previously been explained by various researchers, however as I successfully was able to repeatedly record the manner of appearance of the acupuncture effect using a simple autonomic nerve reaction examination method, I'd like to report on this one aspect.<br>Experimental Method: Six adult males and 4 females all of whom showed tendencies of autonomic nerve imbalance according to the CMI-Abe Test were used as subjects. As positive results were also obtained in both the Kestner Skin Capillary Reaction Test and the Dermography Reaction Test, outaneous needle therapy was administered on the upper back and lower back lateral to the spine, on the central abdominal area, on the anterior aspect of the forearm and the anterior aspect of the lower legs. Stationary insertion for a period of 10 minutes was administered as GB-20, BL-38, BL-23 and SP-6. Therapy was administered once every 3 days for a month (10 treatments).<br>Results: When the above tests were repeated in 8 of 10 cases there were no longer indications of autonomic nerve imbalance tendencies Moreover, in the Kestner and. Dermography Tests reactions were normal.<br>In summary from these results it can be stated that once more it has been proven this acupuncture therapy is effective for the treatment of what must be called the modern disease of autonomic nerve imbalance syndrome.
